Narritive lead

In "27 Dresses," Katherine Heigl plays the perennially single woman who's "always a bridesmaid, never a bride" and who has a closet full of unattractive, frilly frocks to prove it. It makes for an entertaining story line. But, in reality, bridesmaids dresses aren't as frumpy as the movies make them out to be.

The writer used a narritve lead here, becasue this stroy isn't so serious it's about fashion, therefore, it needs a lead like this one to draw people's attention by using the lates movie "27 Dresses" to relate to anyone who has been a bridesmaids or anyone who has watched the movie.

nut graf: In fact, experts say they've gotten to be downright - would you believe it? - stylish. Pretty, even.

Darn! The link no longer works. You're right about this not being a summary lead, as well as why the writer chose not to go the straight summary route. I'm not sure this is a true narrative lead, since it's about a fictional character in a movie, but you're on the right track.
